It is different things to different people.
It can be sex, the act of sex and passion.
It can be cuddling, holding each other, dancing or anything that involves intimate contact.
And it can be just being so in love and knowing every little thing about each other. That is what makes my relationship with my husband intimate. We know things about each other that no one else knows, we know how to please each other sexually and emotionally. We have a relationship based on love and respect and consider it very intimate.

Intimacy is the next level in expressing love, the best example is making love ... not just having sex. It doesn't have to be in marriage but marriage is the legal union of two people expressing their eternal (hopefully) love for each other. Intimacy is the expression of love, generally through sexual pleasure of some kind.

Lee there's a few meaning of intimacy in marriage, one is the love that you feel towards your husband, second is how you can make him feel needed, special, and your number one priority, and the 3rd one is sex, this will be the key that you and your husband can share because the two of you become one.....

I don' t think that intimacy has anythign to do with making love or sex. I think that it is being totally comfortable with one another. To know what the other is thinking without words or actions. When my husband comes home from work I think our most initmate time is when he lays his head in my lap and watches the t.v. I rub his head and we are in total bliss.

Being close to one another with words and telling each other how much they mean to you. Just laying in bed looking at each other and enjoying your alone time together. Looking up at your skylight when the rain falls and kissing and holding hands.

To me it's being able to lay bare your deepest self without feeling shame to your spouse. That's the closest you can be with another person.
