well this is a algebra geomatry class question and I know that you first have to distribute....but then I get lost in the equation and then always get it wrong

use distribution , so that is....5t+60-16+32t =0
37t=-44, then move 37 to the left , so the t would be -44/37

ok im nice enough to help you...look at the equation (stare at it) then you can see that the equation is divided into parts. First is 5(t+12) and -8(2-4t)....Distributing means to multiply the outer term to the inner terms but carrying the operation of the iner term ,in this case we have: (5 x t) +(5 x 12) which equals to 5t+60 do the same to the other "part " of the equation, we have -16+32t (remember that neg. times neg. equals positive) ..lastly, combine the terms together we have...5t+60-16+32t ...add or subtract "like terms" depending on their signs(the "t's" to the "t's" and the nos. to each other) and we have 37t+44 (the final answer)

It's good that you posted this question so i can brush on my 12-year old math skills a bit...lol (hope you understood it though..I tried to explain as specific as i can)

5(t+12)-8(2-4t)

First, distrubute the positive five through the first parenthesis, and then distribute the negative eight through the second parenthesis.

5(t) + 5 (12) and -8(2) -8(-4t)

So you now have

5t + 60 - 16 +32t

Then you combine like terms. Remember, take the sign that is directly in front of the like term.

37t + 44

You can't combine them any further, because they are not like terms.

5(t+12)-8(2-4t)
= 5(t) + 5(12) - 8(2) + 8(4t)
= 5t + 60 - 16 +32t
= 5t +32t + 60 -16
= 37t + 44

yes, just distribute.
5(t+12)-8(2-4t)
(5)(t)+(5)(12) -(8)(2)+(8)(4t)
5t+60-16+32t
37t+44

wait, what does it equal to?
where's the equal sign? it's not an equation unless it has an equation sign. but if it doesn't, this is the lowest you can get the expression down to.

since there's jus a ? after the equation, so we'll have to solve the equation..
5(t+12)-8(2-4t)
=(5t+5x12)-8x2+8x4t
=5t+60-16+32t
=37t+44

= 5t + 60 -16 + 32t
= 37t +44

5(t+12-8(2-4t)=

5t+5*12 - 8*2 + 32t.
ohhhhh I know ^ what you messed up on, when you - (something - something) then it's like - something +something... see how the sign changed to 8*2 +32t

5t+60-16+32t
37t+44=0

37t=--44

t=--44/37

2007-10-27 01:36:00 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

= 5t + 60 -16 + 32t
= 37t +44

5(t+12)-8(2-4t)?
5t + 60 -16 + 32t
37t + 44
37t = -44
t = -44/37
