OMG: Great question. I think common sense has completely gone out the window in most cases. Just look around you, people don't know how to think before they open their big mouths, judge others, or think before the act, so to speak.
Our government is the worst when it comes to common sense. There is so much red tape and BS within our laws, that most of them don't have any common sense anymore. When you lock up a teenager for having consensual sex with another teenager, for 10 years, but let an adult child molester out with a slap on the hand and probation, where is the freaking common sense in that???
When you arrest, and handcuff a 5 year old girl for having a temper tantrum in the Principle's Office, after she has settled down and is sitting quietly, or not allow a National Honor Student participate in graduation ceremonies, because she had a table knife laying in the back of her car from MOVING IN TO HER DORM, that fell out of the box, you know common sense is not a common thing.
God help us all, because I have been trying so hard to bring common sense back to the fore front. It is not an easy thing to do, but I am determined. That is why I am called Common Sense Mom.
To Watcher: Great answer!!

Yes, it seems to be rare these days. Common Sense is the ability to apply reason, and should be encouraged from an early age. You don't have to be book smart to have it, but it implies a certain intelligent thought process. Our recent "blameless" society does not encourage use of common sense beyond "if it is hot you will burn yourself", and sometimes not even then. Today's culture has done away with it. If you let your computer / TV / games / etc do this thinking for you, then why reason it out or give it any thought at all. Sounds a bit cynical, but wonder where we'll be in 30 years or so.

FOR REALS B
There are a lot of stupid people out there I just want to kick them all in the head and say "What the hell man!?"
They may need to consider a common sense scenario class for seniors.

I honestly don't think it has ever been common. I think it is referred to as common because those who do have this trait can't figure out why it's soooo hard for others to get it together! As in, it should be common...

common sense was never common. Think about it, it's generally some smart alec chiming in after everything has happened. I could pretend to be intelligent too if I only opened my mouth after I knew what went wrong.

NO. Today the common sense once craved is lost on the masses of lemmings. It's wiser to have better sense.

I suspect it never quiet was. But nobody knew due to being confined to the little group of people with whom their shared their "sense". Now you have internet and other media and all of sudden the world is too small for all of the ideas.
