Vets are homeless and republicans obviously can’t get their heads around welfare.

What will republicans do to get our veterans out of the gutter?? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...

They are so big on WAR, WAR, WAR... but what do they do for our vets once they get home?

Democrats wanted to add $22 billion to the president's nearly $1 trillion request. (for FY '08)

"The extra $22 billion includes $4 billion for veterans' health care and administrative services; $2 billion for port security; $3 billion for education; nearly $1 billion for sewage and water treatment improvements; and money for local law enforcement, housing for the poor, and road and bridge upgrades. "

Contrary to libs badmouthing Republicans on this issue, the CONGRESS sets the budget for the VA...not Republicans.

Want to help a vet, regardless of your party ? Then take part and volunteer on an Operation Standown. For 3 days the homeless vets get help with medical, dental, legal problems, new clothes, showers, food, filing of VA claims, and some self respect.

I know, I have worked 3 of them.

Vets don't go serve to come back as "wards of the state", they EARNED thier bennies for thier SERVICE. That's more giving than a welfare slacker has done !

Well, given that the GOP has cut VA support programs, medicalcare, and rehabilitation. And don't evenbother to enforce the law protecting National Guradsmens's jobs when they are called to active duty--I'd suggest this: vote Democrat until you can get your own party disinfected of the neoconservatives.

This is for BOTH sides - stop treating vererans as political footballs. These men and women answered the call of their country, served and paid a price that most others are too scared or selfish to pay (that goes for the veterans most countries).

The are OWED.

Sounds to me like the Government is already doing all it can to help its vets. Being a vet myself, I have had my problems, but i was always mindful of the fact that my well being was my responsiblity not the Government's.

I can't accept that Vets went to fight for American principles so they could return to be wards of the state.
