Not really, but it had to be the pony ride at the fair. I remember doing that every year when I was little, but I don't really remember which year was which.
I was always such a horse nut, I just loved it. Even better was the year I went to camp and got to ride every day! They taught us to saddle and bridle our own ponies, too. It was trail riding, of course. Not like the pony rides where you just go in circles. that's where I got my first taste of real horseback riding. I was in heaven! Used to go riding at state parks, friends' houses, anywhere there was a horse or pony, every chance I got!
Mom wouldn't let me have a pony when I was a kid. She said they cost too much, it cost too much to take care of them, and they don't earn their keep. Not like back in the day when you needed them to pull wagons and plows.
I asked Santa every year, but no matter how good I was, he never brought me one. Mom said she guessed a pony wouldn't fit in the sleigh, but I didn't really buy it. If he can fit hundreds of bicycles in there, why not one pony? I was a smart kid.
I had to be content mostly with reading everything horse-related I could get my hands on. I probably knew more about horses than any other non-horse owning person alive!
When I grew up, I got a horse of my own, finally! His name was Jack (not my choice, that was his name when I got him. I didn't think it was fair to him to go and change his name). He was a gorgeous jet black Arabian-Quarter Horse gelding. Smallish, and looked more like an Arabian than a QH.
When money got too tight, I had to let him go. I hated it, but when it comes down to feeding your kids or your horse, there's no contest. I found a good family with kids, so I knew he was loved and taken care of. That was the best I could do.
I'll probably never have another one, especially with so much drought. This summer there was no grass, and hay was up to $9 a bale, if you could find it!
At least I'll always have my memories of riding Jack!

I don't remember the very first time, but I remember my father teaching my older brother how to put a saddle on a horse and cinch it down. I got on the first horse my brother saddled, he did a sloppy loose job, when I was on the horse, the saddle rolled around underneath the horse, I fell off, and crawled out of danger. That was a scarey moment!

Yes I do. It was a two hour trip around some mountians. Got really windy and towards the end it rained. Not such a good experience, but at the end of the trip I had some great chili.

I rode bareback with a friend of mine. I held onto her belt loops as she was in the front. When we came trotting back the horse stopped suddenly and I fell off of it and into a big metal bucket. Unfortunately, I brought my friend down with me because I never let go of her! Bumps, bruises, pain ... that was the first and last time I had ridden a horse. I was about 13.

Yeah I was about 10 and my foot went through the stirup and I was stuck and the stable guy had to come out and push my foot back through. And my horse was pooping the whole time! Quite a funny memory!

Yes, I actually took lessons. English style. I was about to be entered into a show and learn how to jump the horse!! Then..........it stepped on my foot...have you ever had a horse stand on your foot??? It hurts...BAD. I was out after that. That was enough for me. LOL.

Yep, and it was loads of fun. I was about six or seven when I first rode.
Sadly, I haven't been out riding in about four years now.
