ok lets hope the Mods dont delete it this time. Ok this is somethin i wanted to speak on, i've noticed alot of people (mostly non-hip hop listeners, and those not associated with the culture) always criticize hip hop and the culture for the "no snitching" policy. but where are these same ppl when these same actions are carried out by Cops and ppl in the military? if you think about it, the do the same thing. For example, small force of US troops raids a village in Iraq and rape some of the women in that village. That is a crime if I never knew one, yet alot of times, this kind of stuff wont be brought into the national spotlight. Why? Because the troops who didnt participate in it wont "snitch" on those who did, they'll keep it to themselves, where are the anti-no snitch code follwers at now? and what about the corrupt cops who roam the streets freely after stepping out of line, killing a civilian, or participating in some other kind of crime, how come we dont hear about it?

Because their partners, and fellow police offers wont drop the dime on them..Yet, as soon as you have someone affiliated w/ hip hop refusing to testify in court, or lying to the authorities or a court to protect a friend (Lil Kim), the media and others will blame everything on "No Snitching" and how it is so negative to the culture

Im mainly lookin for opinions from my fellow hip hop listeners and anyone else that can come with an open mind to voice your opinion on this.

You make very good points, but I think it might be because in hip-hop people actually say things in songs like "stop snitching," or "**** snitches," etc., while in the scenarios you talk about the actions of the military and police are out of the public eye. It is still ****** up, but the average American needs more than just a couple authors writing a book about abuse in Iraq or a couple black people complaining about how police are corrupt to realize that something is happening. Not saying they would give a **** if it got out in the open, but you never know.

I agree 100%. I find it interesting that they never say anything about the word "snitching," but when it's a "hip hopper" it's the hip hop culture that causes him/her to stay silent. Then they play a hip hop video in the background, while covering the story. I find that instead of saying "snitching" they call it "code of silence." I feel, if it's a Rapper or a crime committed by someone in the "urban" areas "no snitching" is the main focus for some, but when there's a story like a cop killing an innocent person, they pay less attention to the "no snitching," when it's obvious that cops in the department know about it (apart of it).

The coaching won via JWs is the comparable the international over. All talks from the platform could comply with Society coaching. All public talks could settle for from a Society define (this is so exhaustive it leaves little room for something). Even solutions given via JWs to questions from the platform could accept as true with what the Society has revealed. No deviation from Society coaching is tolerated. The administration exercised from headquarters is so strict that every person preserving to a differing perception on any element would the two could close up and positioned up, or leave the corporation. This uniformity, which JWs boast approximately publicly, isn't biblical, as even a cursory analyzing of the recent testomony shows. Paul reported there have been many 'disputable concerns' that should not be argued over. The Watchtower Society tolerates no dispute approximately something. Christian denominations agree solidly on the foundational, significant doctrines of the religion, yet they appreciate others distinctives. Cultural adjustments additionally are absorbed in healthful Christian circles. yet whilst any JW disagrees approximately something, he dare no longer voice it publicly, so the genuine answer on your Q is, 'sure, yet in simple terms publicly.'

I see your point and I agree with you 100%! It's just pure racism and hypocrisy. Hip Hop remains the most controversial culture ever, people love to hate it. The Hip Hop community is ALWAYS under scrutiny and people like to nitpick and blowup every little thing that we do. Yet (like you pointed out), somehow THEIR code of silence is accepted and never EVER brought into the national spotlight. That's ridiculous. And don't even get me started on the cop situation. There are so much corruption in the Police Dept in Los Angeles (for example) and I know that they cover-up a lot.

Here's my take:

I agree, and here's why...

The term 'snitch' is older than hip hop. So are "rat", "song bird", "stool pigeon", etc.

Why do these terms predate hip hop? Because organized crime predates hip hop.

The 'honor amongst thieves' mantra has been around for centuries.

Actually, smart people know this and, lets be real, most people on this site aren't smart enough to know this stuff.

because they need a scapegoat to hide for what they really are. hip hop is the scapegoat of the police and military abusing their power and such. it goes back to the foundation of he's white he's innocent, he's black/minority he's guilty. it also has to do with power and money. for example p diddy and shyne... shyne has to do 10 years (out in 09 or 10) for the gun in the club shxt. p diddy walked away like nothing happened. why?? because p diddy is well known, has more money, has more power. shyne had just released his debut album, he wanst known well, he had less money. its always been like that. the higher power abuses the lower power. in other words the government abuses the hip hop community because the govt has more power.

It's different. Ratting out on your friends to save your hide is snitching. That is not tolerated in the community but it happens. But sometimes people need to tell in order for the common good! I mean come on! When it comes to like someone telling the military something to protect the country or to stop a rapist, that is really important! I think that you are comparing oranges to banannas!
