Look, professors of literature need to make a living too. They make their living by over-analyzing books and trying to find hidden meaning. This statement is no worse than other statements from religious conservatives claiming that Harry Potter is a Satanic plot to make witchcraft and the occult acceptable.

One of the features of science fiction/fantasy is that the author makes up a fictional world with its own set of institutions and rules. Literary critics then love to look at those institutions and rules and interpret them as a commentary on some feature of today's societies and governments. I am sure there are some critics who see not a comment of the England of Margaret Thatcher but instead a criticism of certain tendencies in the British Aristocracy.

Get a life, will you?

One obscure Frenchman talks a lot of bull, and you blame the 'left'?

Do you really take this seriously?
"So what appears as elitist is in fact real equality, as opposed to the false equality of the Muggles. In this, Harry Potter is a war-machine against Thatchero-Blairism and the 'American way of life'.

"J.K. Rowling is a real libertarian motivated by a desire to conserve. It is as if she is saying ... the real magicians are not Tony Blair's spin-doctors but people who know Latin and Greek."

Get a life, will you?

It was never implied nor depicted. I think she simply wanted to get a rise out of people and sell more books.

Your complaining that the left ruined a book because you don't like what the author said about her character in her book that she made???

Harry Potter is so overrated. And the trendiness of it is oh-so tiring anyway.
