I have a 14 week old. He is obcessed with sticking his hand in his mouth 24-7. I always try to pull them out bc he gets carried away and gags himself at times. Why does he do this all the time? Is this normal? And its not bc hes hungry be he is always happy and fed. He does not take a passy and its the one thing my husband is against and forbids.

why is your husband against it? because he doesn't want baby to do it when he gets older maybe?
well, the hands in mouth thing is totally healthy around 3 months or so, and a sign that your baby is properly developing! this is a great way for your baby to practice hand muscle coordination.
sorry, but your husbands actions are going to make NO difference as to if the baby puts his hands in his mouth or not,
baby isn't developmentally mature enough at 14 weeks to understand discipline, silly husband! haha.

i know this sounds odd, but the gagging is a great way for baby to learn about consequenses. eventually, over the next couple of months, your baby should come to the amazing realization of this, "ohhhh so that's why i gag? because i put my hands in there? ohhh!"
that's just learning at it's most primal and early phase. and neither you nor your husband can teach that. baby will learn on his own.

sounds like you've just got a little experimenter on your hands!

good luck :)

It's just something babies like to do. They find their fists, they put them into their mouth. Just wait until he finds his feet and tries to do the same thing. Or anything off the floor when he's old enough. You'll be wishing for the time when it was only his hands in his mouth.

As for your husband forbidding it, that's just..wrong. He's 14 weeks old. He's not sucking his thumb, he's putting his hands in his mouth, and will grow out of it. Your husband needs a small reality check on the situation.

My son does it too. Has since he was born. It's absolutely normal. It's just his way of self comfort. Don't worry about him gagging himself and don't try and pull them out of his mouth, it's a good thing. It means he's a self soother. If he gags himself it's not really going to bother him much, but he'll probably be a little more careful next time. He's still young.

Teething rings work even though they aren't teething to keep them from gagging themselves. It's normal. None of mine would take a pacifier at all. But, My #2 was born with her fingers in her mouth. She was a happy baby until your pulled those fingers out. She grew out of it. Like most normal babies do. I don't agree with the parents letting 4 and 5 year olds having a pacifier.

Don't worry. All babies do this. They do it when they are teething, They do just to do it. My kids did it all the time. At 14 weeks there is nothing to worry about but at say four years old then it is a bad habit that should be diciplined. He is a tiny baby and that just what they do. You could try a cold teether. It is just instinctive like thumb sucking. They even do it in the womb.

babies like to play with their hands, mine still accidently gags on his fingers sometimes and he is a yr and a cpl months lol. i have a bunch of pics when he was younger, he has his hands in his mouth in almost all of those, it was hard to catch him doing anything else. babies learn about the world like this, first their hands then close objects, then things a little further, then dropping things to watch them fall, then when they can crawl they learn everything at floor level, and when they are walking they learn about everything they can reach which expands as they get taller, i left out some things but you get the point. :) hes a normal baby so no worries.

Why is your husband so against a pacifier? Newest studies have linked a pacifier at bed- and nap-times to a reduced risk of sids:

That issue aside, it is quite normal for a baby to mouth their hands quite a bit. My little one loved to have her fingers in her mouth, just as you described, even getting to the point where she would gag herself. As time went by, she stopped doing it quite so much, and now, at almost 7 months, she only puts one or two fingers in there every now and again. I wouldn't worry about it.

Your toddler will spend the subsequent couple years of her existence consistently putting issues in her mouth. it is between the approaches she is exploring and getting to grasp with regards to the international round her. it relatively is surely favourite. some babies have a greater advantageous sucking want than others. there is no longer something incorrect together with her having a pacifier or sucking on her palms. do no longer complication approximately it and enable her suck whilst she needs to.

Its completely normal!! You husband can forbid it all he wants and the baby will still do it. Leave him alone. Its natural for him to do that!! Why does he forbid it anyway...that makes no sense...control freak??

If you try to keep his hands out of his mouth it will only frustrate and upset him....for no reason. Leave him alone!
