I've started picking my nose a lot and I just can't stop. I pick it several hundred times a day. And I really pick it. If I can't get any "greasy, grimey gopher guts," I start peeling skin and hair. Medication isn't working. Is this normal OCD or is it something else? My doctor says I wouldn't get so many nosebleeds if I just kept my finger out of there.

Y'know, I have always had a problem with biting my nails. And I mean really always. A doctor told me to cut sugar out of my diet entirely and eat breakfast every day within an hour of waking up. And you know what? It worked. No kidding. The desire to tear at my nails and cuticles even though they were bleeding and sore just went away. I'd been doing it twenty years. Now, as long as I follow those two guidelines, it takes very little willpower to not chew at my nails. I know nail-biting is not what you asked about, but it seems kind of similar so I thought I'd throw my two cents in. Hope it helps!

I like to pick mine and then wipe it on like glass doors of restaurants. Especially if it is a big slimey one. I think this is normal behavior. Just make sure you don't pick your nose and then pick your teeth with the same hand without washing first. Pick to your hearts content.

These other answerers are wrong. It is OCD, and should be evaluated. It may also be GAD, but a psychiatrist or CBT therapist can help you.
