People who kill themselves see this as the only remaining solution to their problems. People differ in their ability to handle the troubles that cause such desperate feelings. Many find it difficult to recognize and solve personal problems in a calm and ordered way. Researchers believe this inability to cope may be connected to biological and chemical imbalances.

Some suicides are the result of impulsive decisions based on a situation that seems hopeless - loss of a job, divorce, or a breakup with one's girlfriend or boyfriend. These “reasons” for suicide are not the actual “causes” of the suicide. Rather, they are “triggers” for suicide in a person suffering from a mental illness. Suicide attempts triggered by major disappointments, such as romantic rejection, problems with peers, or failing a big exam, are common among depressed teenagers, who haven't had the life experience to realize that these “injuries” heal with time.

Ninety percent of the people who commit suicide have a mental or substance abuse disorder (or both). More than half of the people who kill themselves are seriously or clinically depressed. Although most depressed people are not suicidal, most suicidal people are depressed. Serious depression is considered a medical illness by the World Health Organization. Serious or major depression is a long-lasting sadness that doesn't let up for two weeks or more. In children, depression is often indicated by irritability.

Some of the signs of depression are:

Sadness and crying.
Feeling tired all the time or complaining of having no energy.
Changes in appetite or sleep.
Loss of interest in doing things.
Trouble thinking or concentrating.
Spending more time alone.
Feeling hopeless or worthless.
Having suicidal thoughts.
Twenty to twenty-five percent of people who kill themselves are intoxicated. Of course, most people who drink do not kill themselves. Alcohol by itself is not a cause of suicide. However, alcohol lowers self-control and increases impulsive behavior. Someone with a mental disorder who drinks is at increased risk of suicide.

Other people are depressed due to circumstances such as chronic illness or pain. The elderly are prone to this type of depression and can be a suicide risk. They can be helped by medication, pain management, counseling and family support

Most people commit suicide to try and end the pain that they are in, because they don't feel the pain will ever end. Whether the pain is emotional or physical the person committing suicide does not think that the pain will ever end and they feel that this is the only way to do it. They aren't necessarily trying to end their lives just end the pain. IF they could be assured of ending the pain they wouldn't end their lives. But this is the only out that they can see.

when you commit suicide; you do it because its the easiest way out.

its the best answer, the only way you can see to solve all your problems and just get it over with.

the fastest way to not being alone anymore, to not feeling so cold and downhearted.

suicide can be caused by many things, but its usually as a result of depression or low self esteem.

i just finished the book " TH1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY"

it was really good(yes its spelled with the 1 and 3 in it.)
i dont remember who it was writen by, but it was about a girl who had jsut commited suicide and the reasons why she did it.

if ur simply curious, i highly recommend picking up some fictinoal reading to do with suicide or depression.

if u are having thoughts about actually committing suicide; tell someone. if they dont take you seriously, tell someone else. its important you find someone who will listen. i'msure theres at least someone out there who would be willing to help.
goodluck:]

i love the question. ur answers so far not so much. suicide is SOMETIMES commited to to mental illnesses, but in most cases that is not so. it can be due to a varity of reason, usually pertaining to abuse in some form, partically as a child. the person is not always the outsider and typically seen to be the type to commit. There are multiple other reasons as well, differeating from person to person depending on their sercaumstances and all. I hope to see some well informed answers on this. i think it is important for ppl to unstand this kind of thing. the ignoracne of ppl annoys me greatly....
btw, sorry i can't spell... i hope this helps to answer ur question. ^_^

A lack of faith in the future that things could ever get any better. It could be due to mental illness or to an acute sense of severe desperation.

Overwhelmed by problems real or imagined, life becomes unbearable. A narrow view points to death as the only solution.
