or you can go for blue jean skinnies and converse. thats more edgy

I think black skinnies would be okay, sure.
Maybe a flare or bootcut jean, probably darker wash. Lighter would proably work too, but it depends on how they look on you.
For shoes, go with some flats if you wear the skinnies, or some sneakers with the other jeans.
A hat would be neat, too (maybe)

Definitely skinny jeans, but I would maybe go with a greyish wash instead of straight-up black. Save that color for the shoes!

For shoes, I think some black Converses or Vans would be fabulous and give you the laidback look you want.

If you want to be a little more original, a pair of colored or white skinny jeans would be cool. Ideas:

Another idea: A denim mini with some neutral-colored leggings and a pair of Vans would definitely give you a more feminine but still laid-back kind of look:
