go into "My Computer" ... right click on your "C:" drive and then go to "Properties" ... "Tool" ... "Check Now" ... this will open box with 2 checkboxes ... make sure both those are ticked and click OK ... it will tell you that the disk is being used and do you want to schedule a chkdsk at next startup ... click YES and restart your computer .... it will take between 10 and 60 minutes depending on what it finds ... do this and all should be OK
Good Luck

chkdsk ("check disk") is a utility that has been built into the Windows OS for a long time. It is these days a little known but still excellent utility to check the integrity of your hard drive file allocation table, indexes and so forth.

Your best best is to just reboot your PC, let it run, watch it while it is running to see what it does, and run defrag again after it finishes.

To force a run (recommened monthly) of checkdisk, open an MS-DOS command prompt, type "chkdsk c: /f" and when prompted enter "Y" for yes. Then reboot.

Excellent maintenance procedure, just don't overdo it.
