My boyfriend and I have opened up a business. We both invested our shares in it. I'm a bit younger than him and my parents have helped me out with an important amount of money to invest in the business. We are turning great numbers only our personal lives are suffering. No more time for each other, just work... We have an 8 year old daughter together. He is always to tired to do anything with her, so I'm the one who takes her around. Our relationship has suffered for a year whilst preparing the business as well. Sometimes he gets very uncontrolled and says things that hurt our feelings. If we don't agree he just turns his back and walks away. He doesn't want to listen to what I've to say and he leaves. I can't voice my opinion. The worst thing he said: I regret so much, that I have started this business with you. Myself, I have put so much in it & if my parents knew they would just "smack" me. With clients he is always nice. How can I end this relationship without hurting the business?

note for danielle l: I will not let my daughter get hurt through this. The business is young and flourishing, I want to find the right solution, so he doesn't "short-circuit" and abandon the business out of frustration.

You cannot dance your way out of this one samba...

You need to accept the grim reality is you cannot end this drama with ease.

Make the best choices for your daughter. That is your best bet.

Good luck.

ouch !! Been there ...only the partner was a husband.
Ok..
First, you make sure that you get a company By-Laws set and signed. make sure that you have equal rights in business, equal power and shares. MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET THIS DONE !
Make sure that you are involved in all aspect of the business including SALES and FINANCE (very important).

Start pulling yourself apart from this boyfrieds...slowly and carefully. You dont have to tell him every minute on where you are and what you are doing......Tell him that you need space in your personal life and start visitng other friends.
Here is a truth sis - you cant save the business or even run the business, should you abandon this guy. He will keep blackmailing you to stay in it.
Get smart, get your interest all legal and secure in the business, before you decide to get out of the relationship.

You have to talk to him and just be straight up! And let him know that you still NEED this business for HIS daughter to survive and have everything that she needs and will still be a great partner. BUT i KNOW its going to be very hard imagine working with a man your going through a divorce with? I would tell your parents maybe they will be able to help you out. Good Luck!

Start by asking him questions like "do you imagine what it would be like if we weren't together? Do you think we could still do business together?" Just be open, and calm and genuine. There's no way to avoid drama when breaking it off w/ someone, so the only way to do it is by being completely honest and direct.

the question should be how can i end this relationship with out hurting our daughter? try couples counseling, starting a business is stressful , talk it out , tell him you dont appreciate him treating you this way and you want to make it work.

I don't think that you can because of the way he treats you it seems he has no respect for you at all, not as a person nor a partner. Maybe you can sell your way out?

Exactly why you don't start a business with a bf/gf. It's no different to screwing the crew. There will be no diplomacy.
