Did you feel the same way when Katrina destroyed the homes of poor people?

Do you think the homes in the Lower 9th Ward should be rebuilt? Reclaiming the land helped create the conditions that allowed Katrina to maintain strength. There were fewer mangrove trees to slow the storm and absorb its energy before reaching the city.

Malibu is also susceptable to the wrath of nature. There are often landslides and brushfires. Should those homes be rebuilt too?

If you were happy, why do you maintain this double standard?

No. I wasn't happy about either event. And I was especially unhappy when I learned that the Orleans Parish Water and Sewage Board got over $500 million from the Federal government over the five year period preceding Katrina' s landfall only to wind up with a bunch of levees that had less stability than a sand castle on a beach. The tragedy of the lower Ninth Ward is a living example of total incompetence and corruption in local government.

Misfortune shouldn't make anyone happy, especially when any person loses his/her home due to natural or unnatural disasters.

Since the Katrina residents were displaced first, the lower 9th ward should be first on the government's list of rebuilding.

Yet we are still seeing some of the same debris from 2 years ago, untouched or unremoved!

It is evident, because most of the residents are people of color, their needs will continuously be neglected & misdirected.

Regarding the Malibu/San Diego residents, the government has already begun to come to the aid of some of these residents, simply because they are white, in majority!

Tons of bottled water, good food & other amenities were dispursed, just a few days ago, to the Southern CA. residents!

It is racism, ignorance & bigotry at its best!

If humans don't change their evil & wicked ways, we will continue to see wrath, be it natural or unnatural evolve expeditiously, right before our eyes!

We (civilians & the government) cannot continue to help one group of people & not another group of people.

Skin color should not be a deterring factor in aiding American citizens

Truth be told, it is a determent!

Having said that, there is a thing called karma!

The Bible declares: Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap!

So, we must all expect a harvest, including America!

Be it good or bad, be it natural or unnatural, be it kindness or wickedness, be it slow or swift!

No - rich or poor, CA or NO, black or white, it doesn't matter. Losing your home and your worldly possessions is tragic and devastating no matter who you are. I have often wondered why people continue to rebuild in areas that Mother Nature destroys over and over again. Sure the 9th Ward should be rebuilt, but not until the safety of the levees is assured. As for the fires, you can't really prevent that and if those crazies want to keep building their homes in the line of the fire year after year, go for it. There is one town north of Malibu (La Conchita) that is slowly getting swallowed up by landslides, no one is rebuilding anymore, but people aren't moving either.

No. People died in Katrina no one can feel a true sense of delight for that. Did wonder if global warming had anything to do with either if more Hurricanes ,stronger Hurricanes worse fires. Probaby cannot tell on basis of one fire or Hurricane though. Was not happy about floods anwhere in the world or The Earthquake that killed 20,000 in Bam. Makes a person wonder if lies about people being happy are being told

that's amazingly unhappy if absolutely everyone loses their homestead to a catastrophe. the single factor that a large many so observed as celebrities have going for them is limitless investment, so they're able to rebuild misplaced homes very immediately while in comparison with some people who're nevertheless suffering years after dropping their homes to fires and failures like Katrina. we could desire to consistently probable be extra in touch approximately people getting harm and pray for the undesirable overworked firemen and girls people that are working so stressful in this catastrophe.

It may be time to start thinking about building a domed city in the near future. Every year they are getting more and more fires and Santa Ana winds. And with climate change it can't help but get worse.
