the song

I just read through the lyrics of that song. I really don't think it's that simple, come to think about it. Everyone is different and my personal thoughts on the matter may be perceived as skewed to others, but people think I'm a bit crazy anyways.

Sometimes, there is give and take needed instead of simple condemnation to assume the value of a friendship.

I was in binds where my friends didn't come to my aid. Yes, I took it bad at first. I thought it over and figured it was my fault that I got into a bind and I really had nobody to blame, but myself. I looked to forgiveness next and rekindled the friendships.

Myself, I was always there for friends. Many a time, I was there too many times and had been taken advantage from my generosity, therefore I figured out who my friends are and who weren't.

I know who my friends are. They are the ones that are still around, through the thick and thin of everything. They are the ones that don't judge or condemn me and visa versa.

Another way to find out if your friends are really 'friends' is by quitting a vise once shared and seeing who sticks around. It's amazing how you quit drinking and phone calls around the weekend begin to dissipate in a jiffy.

All in all, there comes a time when friendships fade away due to life in general. Friends get married off or involved in their relationships and move off in a different direction. Time itself, can fade friendships. However, those friendships are always there... just frozen in time.

There are FRIENDS and there are ACQUAINTANCES... even within family groups.
Acquaintances only call you when they want something... bring a present to a birthday party, or come when they call. These people are "users" at best. They typically don't care about you or anything going on in your life. You always wonder where you stand with these people until you put 2 + 2 together.
Friends are different. They are there for you, usually share common interests, offer a shoulder to cry on, cheer you on, and want the best for you.
At some point, you need to evaluate each relationship and ask, "What does this person bring to the table?" Is this person a mooch? A user? A manipulator? A drama-queen? A time-waster? Or is this person your cheering section? Provide insight? Make you laugh?
As you go down the list of traits and how each thing makes you feel, you will know who you should be spending more time with.

My friends cover my back. They don't steal from me, try to make passes at my wife, try to hurt my kids, and are smart enough to warn their friends and or girlfriends about the way I am.
I had a friend for several years. He's terribly desperate for Asian women. He neglected to inform her about my open-minded disposition if you're rude and ungrateful. He figured because she's a new girlfriend I'd let her mouthy crap go. He truly didn't know me.
We had an ice storm and many people had no power. We have a fire place and offered them a place to stay. She complained after several hours of being here because of no internet service or T.V. She demanded that he take her elsewhere to a place with a generator. He expected me to kiss her butt and do as she wishes.
He's a sucker, I am not. Too bad for him. Because of his bowing down and him expecting me to do so as well we are no longer friends. I don't bow down to anyone.
Besides, his girlfriend looks like Yoko Ono.

Mainly by their actions and the way the treat you. Some will treat you like a friend and then they will step on you when they get the chance. Especially to use you when they get the chance to do so. And all of a sudden I need some help, money wise. And have a problem that needs your help, can you help me? So it is up to you on how to judge them.

Real friends are the ones who like you for you and not for the material things. Also if you are going through a rough time they will stick by yourside. They consider your feelings and not just their own!!

A good friend will bail you out of jail. A real friend would be sitting next to you in jail saying,"Damn! That was fun!" ☺
