Jenny™'s - "Bagpipes and guys in skirts. I really don't know, but don't the Scottish men play bagpipes and wear skirts?"
--
They are not skirts. They are kilts. A kilt is a very long and heavy piece of tartan fabric (expensive too). Plus other dress goes with a kilt, like the jacket, the socks, etc.
Yes, you are correct. The kilt is the traditional / national dress of Scotland. Usually ceremonial dress, and not everyday. Also found in regiments of the army. The bagpipe is also associated with Scotland.
However, I am Scottish and have never worn a kilt of played the bagpipes. Same goes for all my family and friends.

I think of the great wee village where I was born and brought up.
What a fantastic life I had back then. Very little money, but I don't feel as if I missed out on anything.
The freedom of walking through the countyside, without fear of some landowner ordering you off his land, in contrast to my experiences in NZ where I've been told in no uncertain terms by an obnoxious farmer to 'get off my land', even though all I was doing was taking a stroll in the country.
