The greatest in popularity is a toss-up between Hogan and Austin.
The greatest character is The Undertaker.

Since wrestling is about getting other guys over; being able to adapt throughout your wrestling career; and being a face and a heel and being successful at both I would have to first go with:
Terry Funk
He has been wrestling longer than any of these cats.
He's adapted from face to heel to heel to face.
He's been hardcore before hardcore was hard.
He's pushed so many guys hard to get them up the ladder I'm surprised he doesn't have hemorrhoids.
Triple H is prolly second.
But wrestling is about politics now and it's about who has the most stroke - Triple H has it for WWE and we can see Kurt Angle making the powerplay move over at TNA .
