Dan Ellis accomplished both last night in net for Nashville... Question is, how many times has this happened since the league expanded to 30 teams? also who was the first ever to do this?

Dan Ellis started a game for Dallas in the 2003-2004 season, so it wasn't his first career start.

Also, it has happened several times...Michael Smith of the Dallas Stars did it last year, Yann Denis did it for Montreal in 2005

Micheal Smith also had a shutout in his first AHL game as well.

As LITY said, Mike Smith did that last season....and against the Ducks no less, 32 saves for a 1-0 win. I believe it may have been in February or somewhere around there.
