well, the analogy to the Cuban missle crisis is BS, Bush isn't trying to put offensive nuclear ballistic missles on Russia's doorstep, these missles are intended to shoot down ICBMs.
Second, there are only ten, Russia could easily overwhelm the system.
That said, I don't think it is necessary. We have the technology we could build one in a short period of time if necessary, why provoke Russia and Iran if we don't have to?

Well first of all you got it all wrong by saying that US is building the missile defence for europe. I don't think Bush cares a **** about europe. The motives are known only to him, cheney, rice and their gang and may be the israelis. If you look at recent history, USA has been involved in / initiated more overt and covert wars in the last 50 years than any other country in the world. Theoretically europe has more of a threat from USA rather than Iran.

This is another no-brainer of George Bush and the Pentagon and is viewed by the Russians as another attempt to re-ignite the cold war. If the US wants it, the US can pay for it. The siting of missiles in Poland and the Czech Republic may not happen anyway; there is no final agreement and there is much public opposition to it in those and other Europeaan countries. There is no logical or strategic sense to this program except to support US defence and high-tech industries and feed the military's insatiable appetite for expensive new hardware. Fortunately for the US the Russians are not so imperialistically- minded as to negotiate deals to site missiles close to American borders.

The missile defense system is not to protect Europe, but is to protect the USA. The funny thing is, I didn't realize the missile defense technology actually worked. Last I heard they had one "successful" test and that was because they knew the trajectory of the incoming missile.

It's a missile defence system for the USA. It just makes Europe the first target.
Few people in Europe want to be involved in this

They are not building it for Europe, just positioning it in Europe.

Once you realise that America does nothing, unless it is in America's best interest, to help anyone else you will understand events better.

America, far from spreading liberty and democracy, is and has been since the end of WW2 the biggest threat to global stability.

The cold war was caused by USA weakness in the face of demands from Stalin despite the opposition of Churchill.

America has funded terrorism on a grand scale whenever it suited their purpose. They don't care how somebody runs a country, as long as it is run the way America wants.

If you examine USA foreign and trade policy you will see that many of the problems in the third world have been caused by them.

They condemn torture but routinely kidnap people and subject them to hideous abuse.

Your security services are so secretive that many suspect that Kennedy was killed because he upset the CIA.

Your current president has made fortunes from his involvement in companies that have got lucrative contracts in Iraq which they were awarded without competition.

Don't kid yourself that the USA does anything for anyone out of altruistic motives!
