Let me start by saying that Bush should be investigated and charged with crimes for misleading the nation on the build up to the gulf war. I personally am embarrased to have this man be my president and I can't wait until 2008.
That being said. There is absolutely no proof that Bush authorized or even knew about this press conference. There is tens of thousands of American governmental employees. Bush cannot keep tabs on all of them.
The head of FEMA should be investigated and/or fired. But I doubt this will reach the White House.

It is indeed true. The White House acknowledged it. Chertoff denounced it. And the bottom line is, Bush and Chertoff are responsible for it. What in the world every happened with "the buck stops here?" How in the world can the president of the United States claim that he had no knowledge of such a fiasco? And more importantly, what in the world makes the White House think it can separate itself from the incident by making such a claim. It doesnt matter what george bush knew or when he knew it. HE IS THE FREAKING COMMANDER IN CHEIF. People have been relieved of their duties in the corporate world for much less.
The woman who addressed the press corps...Tony Snow in drag I guess...was making light of the incident and even joked about it. "It will never happen again" she swore.
The real question for the president is how often has it happened in the past?
This administration is so duplicitous, so deceptive and so corrupt that it defies any sense of justification. And just when you think it couldnt get any worse, it manages to find a way to astound even the most informed of us. And we are supposed to have confidence in these clowns?

didn't vote for bush really disagree with most of his policies and the direction he has taken our country but we can not blame him for what some idiot employees do. yes he should be accountable and he should deal with it if he covers it up as he has many times in the past then you have a point. the problem with bush is his total disconnect with reality and he sets such a low standard for his subordinates to be held to.
if he was in touch with America and our problems he would understand how these types of idiotic acts look to us. i really think he just does not know better and that is the real shame.
there are a lot of hard working, caring civil servants that are career employees in all branches of the federal government but the idiots that get the top jobs are all political appointments that do not have a clue as to how things actually get done. it is always the political appointees that think they are helping their boss(president) that make these stupid mistakes. happens to every administration eventually some president will figure that out and we will all be better off.
leave the work of running the government to those who actually do the work and send all these political appointees and cronies home. let them get a job were they work for their money and are accountable to their employer. political appointments should be outlawed.

How is Bush responsible for what FEMA does? I mean, I know its a government agency and eventually the responsibilty goes to the top. However, unless he knew about it and condoned it you can't hold him responsible. Everyone wants to blame the president for everything. I don't get it. No one is that powerful in this country.
Frankly, he probably heard about it at the same time as everyone else. (By the way, where did this come from - I didn't hear anything about it).

Bush will see that those who staged the fake conference are punished, unlike when Demonrats commit frauds and are applauded by other liberal heathen Demonrats. Have you changed the air in your bike tires lately?

I'm ready to disband FEMA entirely. I don't see any reason to use tax money collected in California to rebuild homes destroyed by hurricanes in Florida. I don't particularly like wildfires, that's part of why why I don't live in California.

Please provide the news link to the story you are referring to. I'm no fan of Bush - never like him - never will - never voted for him. However, it's hard to comment with out having read the news story.
