I live in Massachusetts, and I applied early action to a college in California. I haven't visited it yet, but I will if I get accepted. What is it like going to school so far from home? How extreme is the difference between California and Massachusetts?

Honestly, I would recommend visiting for a weekend before you make the move. Moving across country is a huge change, and above all, you need to ask yourself if you can handle this change. Being homesick across country is not fun and no real easy solution (unless you're loaded with money). The weather will be different, the people will be different. EVERYTHING will be different. If you do get accepted, seriously sit down, write the pros and cons, and stick with your decision to stay or go.

Good luck to you.

Here in California the schools are EXPENSIVE. Very good schools across the nation are so much cheaper than cali. If you can afford it, go ahead. But other schools around are just as good and much cheaper.

For example, if you want to do business, apply to Jacksonville Univ, that is a VERY good one and a lot cheaper!

In MA, I hear the accent is different. So you will sound different here. Plus, the architecture and people are not the same really, people here are a bit rude... as far as I've noticed.

I live in Cali and it's not that great as they say it is. Just SF and LA are cool, but it gets lame after a while. I prefer the south.

if you're far from home, you're really on your own. when you're close, if something comes up you can always fall back on home. both have their pros and cons.

as for california, it really depends where the school is. is it northern california? southern? urban? suburban?

how far would you be from things of interest? would transportation be an issue? what's the weather like?

depending on where you are california, say goodbye to the seasons as you know it. i'm from the east coast and i go to college in the san francisco bay area. i miss the snow!

you should do research on all aspects of life and think to yourself: Would i like it here? start thinking about it now, what kind of things would you be interested in doing when you go to college? which college suits those needs best?

Some people love California. I hated it. I love Boston. It is a very different way of life from that on the East Coast.

You do realize that if you get accepted to this school that you are committed to go there, right?

You should see the university when you get in. It is a good experience to go to another state and see what they have out there. It is good time since you will be in college and Califorina has good weather so for the next four years you don't have to deal with the blizzards in Massachusetts.
