The Ivy League is an athletic conference, not simply the top schools in the nation. There are many universities in America that are equal to or more selective than the schools of the Ivy League. Schools like Duke, Stanford, and many others are far more difficult to get into than Cornell, but because of their location, they are not considered in the Ivy League.

Why would they want to be in the Ivy League? They wouldn't be able to give out athletic scholarships. Their Basketball Program brings in a lot of money for the university and their endowment isn't big enough to give all that up.
They already know that they ar ebetter than half the schools in the Ivy League -- why leave the ACC?
You do know tha tthe Ivy League is an athletic conference, right?

It's up there with them. Same with MIT, Caltech, Stanford, U Chicago, but I like the Ivy League as it is. There isn't against any of these schools for not being in the Ivy League (well maybe), but they're just as good and preferred by some.

I'd imagine the education offered is much the same, but Duke is better suited to the ACC, especially in geography and basketball.
