The only thing that receives as much tout as intelligence, is beauty (but that is a rant in itself). Why is it that being smart is considered more important than being honest or good or hard working? It doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah it seems like if you don't have a degree that you are 'less than'. It has contributed to my depression b/c I was on my way to getting one when I was pressured into marriage. I still want one for my own reasons but I know a lot of it is pressure too.
I have been told many times that I am smart but it seems that without a degree, I am not as valued in society...that we need to have status and that is the way to get it. Everybody has value and we are all important just b/c we are human!
I really don't like the status symbols we have.

Intelligence is a highly valuable survival trait. Without it, life if HARD.

Nothing can be accomplished without intelligence - effect communication, expression of feelings, self dependence, etc..

My guess is that the measure of our intelligence determines our capabilities, and hence our value as a citizen.
