If you have been affected by alcohol on a long term basis have you had halucinations?
After my partner died I developed suicidal depression. Apart from shaking fits I could not sleep and was given everclear (full strength) and absinthe by a friend to drink at bed time. Even 6 glasses did not help but I sat by open windows and watched little night visitors fly in and out. I found a poor dead one and cried for hours. When I could not find it in the morning to bury it I cried on and off for days.
Is this a common experience?

Hi Rose!

I'm not sure what Everclear is but it is probably the eqivalent of Nyquil.
Generally only long term alcoholics experience hallucinations and then most often when sober. Withdrawal can cause some pretty bad experiences ( I saw a man in a hat and overcoat standing in the corner of my room and this was in Hawaii, eighty degrees and sunshine).
When I say long term I mean years and years. At that point DT's and visions are part of it and so having another drink takes it away.
You went through something pretty awful. A nightmare like that can cause anything.
Sorry you are going in hospital. I will miss you while you are gone. We don't chat much but I check in and follow your Q&A's occasionally.
Would send you a bright bouquet if I knew where.
BTW I have been sober 13 years, 14 days, 7 hours.
Please Take Care. A prayer follows you.
Love, Tink

I never had daytime hallucinations, however I did have nightmares of animals melting before my eyes.

I also had depression and was on medication, I also suffer from sleepless nights.

Luckily its been 10 years for me so my symptoms have largely subsided, although I still get urges and cravings. That's why I keep a supply of candy around.

I've gained some weight but nobody ever got arrested because of love handles or a big butt

I've never had that, but I have heard stories from others in your kind of stressful situation who did.
I'm glad you are on the mend-- you are such a special person!!
