All words have meaning especially when they hurt, if you dont understand that there is some thing wrong. My 15 year old daughter asked me this question, so yes it does matter to me!

Sounds like media double talk to me....... whatever sells papers and grabs headlines

Words hurt but they can also motivate change.

Refugees are to bring to mind the displaced, homeless and helpless. Just what the media needed at the time but now only needed at anniversary moment or when new stories are lacking.
By keeping the citizens of New Orleans classified as refugees in the eyes of the world the news media always has a fall back story.

The California fire victims are to just be looked upon as displaced but resilient people that overcome nature's setbacks.
Haven't you noticed the news stories about the previous fires in the 1990's and early 2000's and how the victims rebuilt and are willing to do so again this year?

My favorite (sarcasm) was the media coverage on the "stars" of Hollywood that could/might live near a fire zone. Like a million dollar TV/movie star can't afford to lose their home or the best one I heard -- star blah (no name needed) could lose their home and have to resort to living in their smaller second residence. True reasons to weep I gather.........

Don't forget, in the early days after Katrina, the displaced citizens were also referred to as Evacuees or homeowners. Now, they are simply refugees because most of them needed to leave the area or wait a VERY long time before they could go back home. And may I ask, why does it make such a difference to you, they are just words?

I'm not trying to be rude, I apologize if I offended. My meaning simply was, if you know, and believe that the people affected by Katrina aren't refugees then what other people think doesn't matter. I understand you are concerned, and rightly so, I was just wondering why.

For one thing Orleans Parish ordinances prohibit clearing debris from the acreage which contained all of those homes destroyed by Katrina's wrath. So, until they can make contact and get permission to bulldoze and cart away all that rubble, those destroyed areas will remain exactly the way they are now.
So, if you know some homeowners from that parish or the surrounding ones, have them get in contact with that local government and give permission for lot clearance.

i'm with you... analyzing the Jewish interpretation/translation of the scriptures is what finally made me comprehend that Jesus might desire to no longer have been the Messiah. The Jews in basic terms have a greater suited argument. i think of the subject is that maximum Christians relatively belive that the Jewish ideals are precisely comparable to they have been taught with regards to the OT. they do no longer comprehend Christians replaced it slightly, interpreted and translated it in yet in a various way. there is no longer something in the Tenakh a pair of virgin beginning, a pair of 2d coming, or approximately eternal damnation & torment. they suspect there is, simply by fact they have in basic terms been taught the Christianized version. they think of the Jews flow by utilising a similar version... needless to say no longer.

The media and the rest of us, expect "homeowners" to return and rebuild. Those that remain on the govrnment "poor-me" system, after a while, become refugees.

The names are accurate.

Your question is biased.

most of poor areas of NO , 9th ward and others, were section 8 or HUD housing. they were low-income renters. they paid less than $100/month rent, the govt paid the balance of their rent($500+/month). the owners were slum lords making a killing off of the government.

maybe 10% of people in these areas were owners.
