I'd still give the Wayne Maki two hander to Teddy Green's skull as my all time ugly play in pro hockey.
Saw Chris Gratton's dad Billy do some ugly things with his stick but that was in Senior.

HA! I was going to ask a question about this and then link to you-know-what. Aww, beat again... NEXT TIME, Loblaw!
The dirtiest play, in my opinion, that I have seen in my lifetime (key words there) is Chris Simon's decapitation attempt on Ryan Hollweg. Uh, is it just me, or did he look real smug in that picture, standing over Hollweg? What a creep.
I didn't pick the Bertuzzi incident, because while it was very dirty, Moore could have expected something would happen to him. Who chickens out of a fight and expects 100% to surely escape any kind of altercation anyway, especially with all the bad blood between the Canucks and especially with the kind of player Moore was. (No, for the thousandth time everyone, I DO NOT condone what Bertuzzi did.)
ADD: Wait, wait... Forgot about Ulf Samuelsson and Cam Neely... I'm not surprised, 'cause I'm divided as a Pens fan. I liked Ulfy but didn't like the things he did, including his knee-to-knee hit on Brian Bellows.
Actually, there are probably a few ones worse, but I don't remember them all. Or don't think they were THAT dirty. Like I was pissed with Adam Graves for trying to take Mario's hand off, but I don't consider it one of the worst dirty plays...

The dirtiest one I saw(in person, anyway) was the hit Dale Hunter put on Pierre Turgeon, separating Turgeon's shoulder, after Turgeon scored the series-winning goal during the 92-93 playoffs. Hunter got 21 games suspended- a record at the time. Knocked Turgeon out of the following series against Pittsburgh, which NY managed to win without him. Turgeon just happened to win the Lady Byng Trophy that year(Ironic, isn't it).

The worst I've seen was the Bertuzzi one. I'm pretty sure they didn't even call a penalty on the Lemieux on Draper hit.
~
Trombass: Hmm, I could've sworn there was no penalty called there. Maybe I'm mixing it up with something else. I was still living in Russia back then and I don't remember games that I didn't watch. Still, I thought there was no penalty. I know that it was definitely a penalty-worthy play lol, I just remember reading that somewhere.

I agree with the whole kris draper hit. That was down right messed up. But there was a game in the playoffs last season i can't quite remember i think it was against the flames and their back up goalie came out and hit one of the Redwings with his stick. It was SO uncalled for and Dirtyyyy. Does anyone know what i'm talking about. I think their team had to pay thousands of dollars for that. I was so mad that day.

Claude Lemieux's cheap shot on Kris Draper.
It was in the 1996 Conference Finals, Game 6, in Colorado. Draper was going for the puck, which was close to one of the benches, when Lemieux hit him from behind, sending him face first into the top of the boards. Draper left the game all bloodied and had to eat through a straw the next few months.
Mike: I think he got a minor penalty and a two game suspension.
Added: Check that, he got a major, a game misconduct, and a two game suspension.

Dale Hunter's late hit on Pierre Turgeon

Turn over, Turgeon goal, Hunter actually eases up then changes/loses his mind and pastes Turgeon from behind in mid-goal celebration

Of the recent ones I will go with Bertuzzi. Yes moore should have taken whatever but he didn't deserve what happened to him. No flyer or ranger or whom I loathe for their dirty behavior deserves that.

I'm going with the Wayne Maki/Ted Green incident too. Nothing in the last 30 years comes close to that incident.

Ulf Samuelson. It would be easy for me to pick "the turtle" being a Detroit fan, but I don't ever remember being as angry as I was after Ulf submarined Neely. I worshiped Cam Neely and tried to play just like him growing up.
I still would like to give that cheap bastard a shot in the mouth.

Sorry Bob- read the question way too fast, thought it was dirtiest player, not dirtiest play. Ulf's knee to knee career hits combined don't compare to a pre-medititated, baseball-swing to somebodys head like McSorley did to Brashear. Hell, he followed him down the ice and tried to cut his head off with his stick, I haven't seen worse.
