Civil Unions or Domestic Partnerships are recognized by Vermont, Connecticut, New Jersey, California, Hawaii, Maine, Washington (state) and the District of Columbia. (The US states of New Hampshire and Oregon will begin recognizing same-sex partnerships in 2008).
None of these are recognized by the federal government.
