The most stressful life changing event in your life.

(Someone in the back suggested having a puppy, thought I'd toss that one in there.)

Dear friends, I wasn't prepared for the heartbreak of very moving life changes. It's one of those times where I so wish I could give EACH of you 10 points, no 10,000 points. You are all true hero's to me.

First real trauma, watching my hub caught in a riptide and then drowning, with an 8 month old son in my arms. Getting a late night call from the police saying my dad had been murdered--he was not murdered but in another state and my little daughter was only 5 weeks old in the middle of the winter with snow on all the roads and ice. Then there was my mom and my stepdad both having heart attacks in the same week.
A divorce from a man I really loved that was unfortunately beyond help. The loss of 5 wonderful friends all in the space of 6 months. guess that will do, there are more.
If moving was a stress to me I would be dead as a door nail. I have moved 16 times in 16 years.

I was going to type in here most stressful events in my life but it all started when I was 6 and has been every few years since. It sounds like a sad country song. The two things I have not faced are the loss of my child, grandchild and spouse. I Praise God that I can continue on my journey and search for rays of sunshine every day. If I looked back longer than a minute, I would be overwhelmed with grief.

Nothing life changing going on here this year. I consider that a Blessing. In my extended family, a sister in law passed away. She joined her Hubby (my brother) who died 6 years ago and their son who died at age 32 of lung cancer, caused by smoking ciggaretts the Dr. said. What a grand reunion that must have been. May I Wish You All the most Blessed of these Holy Days and a New Year of Peace and Hope.

Since we're in the Senior's category I'll mention failed health. My friends are a 70yr old retired couple. Their life was changed forever when he had a stroke. He's paralyzed on one side, in a wheelchair and she works to sustain their lifestyle at home.
Their life's dreams of travel, recreation and rest are not fulfilled and life will never be the same. Strokes are a major life changing event because the damage is irreversible, the stress can continue for years.
Fondly, Juju

After reading these stories (I read thru "justme") I feel compassion for everyone
and know I'm not alone in this thing called......LIFE,
we have to accept it on it's terms.
I'm starting to love you all!

I'd have to say the death of your spouse would be the most stressful life changing event. I've not been through this myself but have seen others struggle through it.

Oh.... I missed part of the question.... The most stressful event in my life? Our first baby was stillborn. That stressful event almost turned me into a lunatic. A kind friend gave us a little dog who became our substitute "baby" and that helped so much. In the next few years we were blessed with two sweet, healthy babies.

I lost my Dad in 1983. My husband in 1984. And, my Mother in 1987. I stayed so drunk in the late 80s that I really don't remember alot. I am thankful I kept my job.I was molested by a family member as a child, so it scarred my reproductive system so bad I was unable to have children. So, now, I am 56 and alone. Sounds like it should be a David Allan Coe song, doesn't it?

In my life'
1. The death of my Dad when I was 12 yrs old ( Im 51 Now and still cry over it).

2. Cyclone Tracey which wiped out my home town when I was 16 yrs old, We lost everything ( I still cry about it now).

Back in those days there was no such thing as trauma counselling and post traumatic stress disorder was not recognised.

Those two events changed my life ABSOLUTELY and COMPLETELY. I think I never really recovered from them!!!

When my daughter was 18 ,still in highschool and told us she was pregnant. That was 14 years ago. Since then she was married, had another child and divorced. We have the 13 year old and her ex and his new girlfriend have the 8 year old. We can't see her anymore and we have been replaced as grandparents. Stressful doesn't even come close to how it has affected us. Our lives have been changed forever but I would walk through fire for my grandaughter that lives with us.

I agree that the loss of a loved one is the most stressful thing in life. I was only 3 when my dad died and my only memory is of him in the casket. Though I know you shouldn't do 'what ifs' because it does cause stress, I couldn't help but wonder what my life would have been like if he lived. My heart goes out to all of you who have had to go through losing a loved one.

It would have to be the loss of a loved one. We're just never prepared. I lost my best friend when we were only16. Lost my mother 10 years ago. Both shattering. Haven't gone thru' the losses that the others above have...losing a sibling or child....can't even imagine.

Prayers and thoughts to all.
