Check for PCM codes and data for clues. Check through secondary ignitiion for corrosion or carbon tracking. Inspect internals of distributor for a green type of corrosion. Check fuel pressure and filter for plugging. You have to check and eliminate before repairs can be done.

That was kinda extreme to replace the engine for a stalling problem.
When it stalls does it feel like a car with a manual transmission, coming to a stop, that the clutch wasn't pushed in? If so disconnect the blue 4 wire connector on the trans and roadtest it again. You should be good with all the shifts, except you won't have overdrive. If this corrects the stalling problem(as described above),replace the torque converter clutch SOLENOID.Make sure you re- connect the blue 4 wire connector and roadtest again. This should be the end of the stalling problem.

Maybe water or something else in the tank?
A friend of mine always got gas at the same gas station and had this problem. For her it was the sawmill getting sawdust in the underground tanks. It was an old station and I guess it got in there somehow or someone pulled a prank and put it in.
Check your fuel filter for garbage and put some line dri in the gas to get rid of any water in the bottom of the tank.
Make sure you have the right gas cap too. I know it's weird but it can effect the way the fuel pump draws gas.
Slow idle is messed up?
Wrong octane gas can make it run rough and die when you slow. I know gas is hi but try slurging and getting a higher grade next time you fill up and see it it helps?
Try this link, they can sometimes help.
