In Southern California where I grew up we didn't even know that such a thing existed but later in life I moved my family to Tillamook OR. There we not only had car heaters but rainvisors that extended out over the windshield so you didn't run down the battery running the wipers.

Yes they did and we had to throw a few speakers out the window in our time too trying to beat the rush out of the parking lot. Remember the kids used to wear their pyjamas to the drive-in and they would all run down to the playground at the front as soon as they got there?

Our drive-in was only open during the summer, so we didn't need heaters. I loved going there. We kids also wore our pajamas and played on the playground. My first job was at that drive-in, I didn't wear my pjs to work though. lol

Yes we did and it was only 1 mile from our house as the crow flies. And we could sit out on the upstairs balcony and see the movie. No fun without sound but some of those racy movies at that time didnt need it. lol

Yes but only about one out of 10 worked so you had to go early and search for a good one. Used to spend a bunch of time at the driveins with my little boys in there jammies.

we were lucky to find a speaker that worked. but on cold winter nights, we would have to start the car and run the car heater, or when we were much younger, we would generate our own heat.

Yes, all the one we attended did. We used to turn it on to get warm, then it got too warm. It also fogged up the windows, then we had to wipe the windshield so we could watch the movies.

Oh, my gosh. I had completely forgotten all about them.
When I tell my children about drive-in movies and their popularity in my youth, I always talk about the speakers and how you had to re-park your car sometimes to get a good speaker.
