I'm very average in height (5'5), but my legs seem longer than normal, and my torso shorter. Hence, I have what seems to me a high waist. My actual waist is small, but I have curves in the form of hips. I have very average boobs, not small, not giant (a big B), and I take a size 6 (or size 6 in Canadian terms). So, based on that, what sort of jean rise is right? I have been wearing low rise, but I've lost weight around my waist, so it exaggerates my hips more (conversely, I don't have much of a butt), so I don't know if that's working anymore.

Also, if anyone has any tips for tops to go with it, please let me know!

Thanks.

Totally Agree with Natalie M. Best advise is to go with a mid rise jean, darker rinse, no distressing like whiskering (that makes your hips look big), and either a straight leg or a slight bootcut. that is a universally flattering cut on most everybody.

i do prefer a little bit lower rise, since my waist and hips are a full size different from each other, and a lower rise (not super low to show the world my underpants), just seems to fit better.

check also Oprah.com. there is a segment there somewhere with Stacey London from What not to wear and she gives all sorts of pointers on jeans.

If you have hips then you definitely need at least a mid rise waist (a high waist might be to long for you) but if you do something to low rise then your hips will turn into looking like love handles. If you want to accentuate your height the way they do in high fashion then go w/ a skinny fit jean. A wide trouser leg or baggy leg will make you look shorter. It's all on the look you want to go with.

I know pockets that set out from the butt make you look like you have one. The best show to learn all that you need to know is What Not to Wear. On TLC. Its the best! IT seems that on that show, they suggest,no matter what you shape that you should wear a midrise pant. If they are too low it seems to push up any amount of fat that you may have. And too high of a rise makes you look like your wearing "mom" jeans. (your pants should be right at the belly button) And a darker wash on the bottom makes you look thinner too. Hope this helps.....definately check out that show!

I have long legs, a short waste, and no butt and I always wear low rise jeans. I can't stand it when my pants are up too high. It looks awful and it is very uncomfortable. I like my pants to be right where my pelvic bones are.

rise isn't so much ur problem. if you don't have much of a butt, then try a straight leg jean( a jean that fits perfectly at ur hips, then goes straight down, to make it look like taller) and as for tops, look for things with belting, beading, seaming and anything that will draw attention to your natural waist. something like:
