I believe everything moves in cycles, if you look for it. I would have in the past claimed that cycles can and often are broken but now I would have to say that cycles can be changed or altered and they then become new cycles. From moods to life and all in between comes and goes, passes and returns its how we deal with change that determines what the cycle becomes, if this makes sense? every new start is preceeded by an ending of some sort. There has never been a slaughter where nothing survives, we just can`t see it because it has evolved in to something new

I think that time just goes forward continually, never to repeat
itself. However, we are limited in our experiences, destined
to repeat rather than re-invent so that sometimes it seems
as if that "time" has returned. Einstein would have had
a better explanation and many physicists would say that
with enough centrifical force one could experience time
standing still in the millionth blink of an eye. Complicated
stuff. Cycles are broken constantly when one dares to
get off the hamster wheel and actually re-create their
life in an on-going way, breaking patterns and traditions.
Most of us find it more comforting to stay where we are.
Of course, if you had a time turner like Hermoine...you
could recreate yesterday over and over.

I'm the wrong person to ask this to. My schedule is the direct result of everyone else's needs. I get up and do the same things everyday...I'm a homemaker, housewife, domestic goddess..whatever you want to call it.
yes, much does repeat itself. You are born as a baby, you grow into childhood, you become an adult... then, you age... you become childlike and revert back to babyhood, before your death if you live long enough...
No, this cycle cannot be broken. I think this is the plan. Your parents care for you as a baby, etc, etc... then, they become babies again and you care for them... society would like to think otherwise, but this is the truth of the matter...
I'm sure history takes cycles also... My husband is the history person, not me.

the science have the concept of a rectilinear time. according to sciences the time started with the big band and since then it is expanding. it is going to the future rectilinearly. but the science is not in a position to tell upto what point it will extend itself.
the western philosophy followed the science, particularly in the twentieth century and thereafter. it has the same concept of space and time.
it is for this reason, the west has given such importance in the records of history. for them history will never repeat itself. so it should be recorded and the kept with care for future generations.
for east and particularly india, the philosophy has proposed a circular time frame. india's time frame has been derived from the cycle of the nature. these are the indians who first of all proposed set of four eras repeating one after another. life is also a cycle. birth, childhood, youth, oldage, death and then again birth. this is circular.
the indian view appears to be more logical.

Fiddlers fiddle the strings on their fiddle when playing the fiddle, so does that make it sing or do you think that fiddle playing vibrations can be strummed using a pick?
Escaping the fuscation of your statement, I would sure like to determine the cynical side to it. First, everything, including humans and animals is a system. Systems are finite and limited to their structure and design. For instance, humans cannot fly. In every system, there is a cyclic state where certain repeated actions are performed regularly. For instance, digestion. Cycling through the system rules does not define time as a cycle and duely, it does not need to be broken.

Time marches on. Events are cyclical because we, as humans, do not change attitudes that have existed since the days of the Neanderthals...only the weapons we use are far advanced than the club over the head. Cycles will not be broken so long as their is greed and hatred, mistrust and envy in the hearts of men and women everywhere.

No it moves in circles for sure..Its like a clock.. always going in one direction around and around.. I have talked about this with a person and this is what they believe also. History does repeat its self...for sure. Weird but it does. The cycle cant be broken.. no way... it might try but it always goes back to the circle.

Hi Rena, I believe that time moves around in cycles. I also believe that circles can be broken to allow a special event to happen. Like when meeting a soul mate.

Time may seem to repeat itself because A) the laws of the universe are fixed so similar conditions will usually lead to similar results, and B) humans aren't as bright as they like to think so they make the same mistakes over and over. No moment in time has ever actually repeated itself, however.

Things do move in a circular pattern, however, there are those cycles that can and should be broken. Those cycles include abuse, violence, hatred and anything negative.
