Hmmm...You missed Deep Purples 1st vocalist, Rod Evans!
As I am a HUGE Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck fan, and Rods vocal stylings really seemed to emulate those two fellas, I'd say it would have to be Rodney for me! He was great with the early 70's proto metal band Captain Beyond too!
I am huge fan of Gillan, Coverdale and Hughes too!
But I'd say Gillan in his prime would be my REAL #1 pick. I can still sing Child in Time as good as he did (seriously). My voice is somewhere between Arthur Browns, Rob Halfords, Tom Jones, Edith Bunker, Ian Gillan, and Tiny Tims! Rock on!

Edit - Oh, I just noticed the bonus part now. I got all excited when I never saw Rods name mentioned in the question! Haaa!
Ian Gillan was on Born Again.
Glenn Huges was on Seventh Star.

Ian Gillan (he's NOT a little boy dad!!!!, lol) I just cannot stop loving his voice. It was his voice that sings all the ulitmate Deep Purples.
I perfer Rainbow 50 times better than Whitesnake. Whitesnakes' whole glam metal thing was just uggggh.
I'm pretty sure it was Ian and Glenn that worked with Sabbath
Born Again and Seventh Star (?). Maybe. I'm not positive. I'm not a big Sabbath fan.... but I know alot of random trivia for no reason at all

*edit:
I have heard some of Whitesnakes old stuff, but not enough. I should though, but the whole Here I Go Again thing.....

Ian Gillan - and if you've never listened to his vocals in the original "Jesus Christ Superstar" you should. His vocal range was amazing.

Best splinter group - Rainbow

Bonus: I know Gillan did the "Born Again" album with Sabbath.
