My car seems like it shakes/vibrates slightly when I drive on a smooth road. It's hardly noticeable (sometimes completely unnoticeable) on roads that are not so smooth though. It also makes a strange rythmic vibration and buzzing sound when I'm cruising on the highway at 65 or 70 mph. It vibrates for about 2 seconds and then stops for 2 seconds, then it does it again over and over. I have 2 sets of wheels for the car and it seems that the vibrating is worse with the 18" wheels than with the 16" wheels on it. I took it to a mechanic and he said he couldn't see anything wrong with the car. What's going on?

All those that have mentioned tires, I don't think that's the problem. I have 2 sets and the car vibrates with both sets of rims/tires regardless of which ones are on it. Both sets have fairly new tires (one set has less than 400 miles on them).

It's possible what you are discribing is a broken belt in one of your tires. You need to run your hand around the outside of the tires and feel for any type of bulging however slight it may be.

You did say you took it to the mechanic and I will assume you had the tires all rebalanced, right?

Good luck

One of the problems is to road test with the person who is assigned to do the repair to show and hear what you are trying to describe. If problem is believed to be with the tires or wheels, have them checked on a Hunter 9700 Road Trust Balance.

Sounds like your car is out of alignment. Take it to a reputable mechanic. Had your tires rotated lately. Maybe you have the wrong size tires on.

While sitting still, turn on your A/C and idle your engine to about 2500. See if you duplicate the 2 second vibration.

You need a front end alignment.

Maybe have the motor mount checked. If you suspect that is what is wrong, then do it before your motor falls out of your vehicle!
