I was just looking through Isis' question about what bands never get mentioned here and realized that I've never seen a Iron and Wine question on here. So Iron and Wine fans... gather!

Is there anyone more mellow than Iron and Wine? (Please share) And what's your favorite Iron and Wine song?

Nick Drake? Maybe...I'm not sure. His lyrics can be dark, but it's very mellow.

A favorite song...I can never choose favorites. I'm a fan of "Free Until They Cut Me Down".

Edit: You need to get Five Leaves Left. It's one of the best albums ever recorded.

Well my fair 'Maiden', wait until 'April' an I'll enlighten you! Haaa!
But seriously, I really enjoyed their 1st album 'The Creek Drank the Cradle' the most, and my favorite song off that album would be 'Upward Over the Mountain'.
The album almost reminds me of Nick Drake, with a bit of twang, or even a more modern Simon and Garfunkel at times.
But I can think of several artists that are much more mellow than Iron and Wine. Check out some early Strawbs, or Dando Shaft.

I don't really know Iron & Wine well enough to choose a favourite song, but I definitely second Isis' recommendation. Five Leaves Left really is a great album.

I'd also strongly recommend Fionn Regan. He released his debut album last yeat, "The End of History", and it's definitely worth a listen, one of my favourite albums to come out in the last few years.

Also, fans of Nick Drake would probably like Jose Gonzalez. You might be familiar with him from a cover he did of The Knife's "Heartbeats", which was used in a Sony ad.

I'm not a Iron & Wine fan but for some really nice, mellow music try out:

Microphones/Mount Eerie (incredible).
and Kings of Convenience for sure.

[edit: this question aroused my interest in them so i went to itunes and listened to some clips. really nice so far...)

Sigur Ros is very mellow, but not that warm-goodness mellow, more like the 'i want to sit in the cold weather and contemplate the demons in me"
