No you don't have to buy a new printer yet, take the cartridges out of the printer, unlock the cartridge harness and take it out of the printer, boil some water, find a container large enough for the harness to sit in and the water can reach the top of it, put the harness in the container, pour the boiled water into the container, make sure the harness is completely covered with boiled water, now let it sit for 15 minutes, dry it off with paper towel as best you can, on the side of the harness is a small electronic board clean that with 99% isopropl alcohol and some q tips, just dip the q tip into the alcohol, turn the q tip sideways and gently rub the contact board, let sit for 5 minutes that will clean the board and evaporate the water that got on it, install it back into the printer, lock it down, put the cartridges back in, how is it now ? better ? if not repeat the process and add a cap full of ammonia to the boiled water.

Exchange the defective cartridge for one that works.
