Excellent question. I wish I could read your paper after you are done. If I were you I would read some stories about the people caught in the middle of the war. For example, the families torn apart, the wives that were left with children to care for and no money, the children that were left to be orphans. There are so many angles you could take.

Guatemalans are STILL picking up the pieces from what the war destroyed in their lives. ALSO, check into the Presidential race that is going on RIGHT NOW down there. There is still political unrest in Guatemala. And politicians from BOTH sides of the former Civil War are still at odds.

Good luck....you may find yourself wrapped up in so much information you don't know where to begin. But don't forget that in the middle of it all is a country of people that simply want to live a peaceful happy life with their families. And it has been DECADES since they have been able to do that in Guatemala.

Read up on the subject. Write an outline of what you want to say. Write the article from the outline. Makes notes on 3 X 5 cards so you can shuffle them up to get them into a proper order before you do the outline. Read as many articles as you can find to be sure of the facts. You could also write it from the point of view of one of the soldiers on both sides. Write a little about what happened from the first soldier's view. Then write the same thing from the second soldier's view.
