Now that's funny.
I think the proper phrasing for a Democrat is "God bless you, unless you don't want the blessings of a higher power, which is your choice, in which case I apologize for offending you with such speech, and give you my solemn promise to eradicate any phrases, no matter how polite or well-meaning, from the language of the American people, which has a zero-tolerance policy against intolerance, unless you're intolerant of religion, because that's guaranteed to you in the First Amendment."

Of course, I can't speak for any but myself. Knowing, as I do that the custom of saying "God bless you." when someone sneezes is a result of the ignorant, medieval superstition that when someone sneezes their soul leaves their bodies and they are thus left open to the possibility of possession by demons or other evil spirits, and being generally uncomfortable with the concept of telling God (if such an entity exists) what to do, when someone sneezes around me I say nothing.
