and are the only government that can make decisions for other countries, especially since the United States is now so beholden to places like China.
Why do you allow a government to put you in such profound abysmal debt?

Compared to many other countries, America's literacy rate is pretty high. We can't be that bad of a country, considering illegal immigrants are risking their lives to get in here and people from so many other countries are coming here to come to school.
And it's unwise to judge the American people by their leader. True, we elected him, but he has used the power we have given him negatively. We can't control the decisions he makes. Our government has become corrupt and all we can do is wait for the next president to fix things.
As for the debt, most Americans are quite angry with President Bush for what he has done. Don't think that we flaunt the fact that we are in billions of dollars in debt. That man has put us in a rut that will take years to come out of.

The problem is that the vast majority of people in the U.S. have absolutely no access or say in the government's annual budget. Republican presidents of the 20th century have raised the military budget tremendously. Currently the military annual budget is at 500 billion dollars and that is just to have a military. Wars cost several billion dollars extra. Wars are one of the main causes of the enormous debt the United States faces right now.

Uh, whoever told you we have a 50% illiteracy rate was lying to you.
Many here agree with you that we shouldn't try to rule the world.
What do you expect us to do about the guy in the White House? We're stuck with him.

that's a great question.
Being an American I can honestly say that the majority of people here are pretty ignorant. The scariest thing to me is that it's the people with the highest IQ's that have virtually no common sense.
Americans in general are very arrogant. I am sometimes ashamed to be one.
the American government and the American people could learn alot from our European friends.... if we still have any left.

I really cannot picture an alternative. I am a citizen of the USA, and our goverment is no better nor worse than the nations that practice their own form of democracy. If you are so unhappy with this country, why do you stay?

That is why we are the most charitable country in the world and are the 1st to help with all of the worlds disasters. Maybe we should just pull back and let the rest of the world go to hell in a handbasket.

it's called VOTING. Many of us vote one way, many of us vote another way. The conservatives won in 2000 and 2004, putz.
I challenge your "50% illiteracy rate." We're a rich dumb country, but our LITERACY rate (not illiteracy rate, shmuck) isn't that high. As if all people in your country speak with one voice. You shlemiel.

The American gov plays on shorting recess so kids have more time to study, but less recess means less time for kids to exercise.
Simply put, The USA is slowing becoming the fattest & stupidest country in the world

Is this illiteracy rate among English speakers only? Probably not. Get statistics that apply to the majority of us and then come back.
