Is story telling important to humanity? Do we really need stories to give our lives meaning? Why or why not?

I think story telling is incredibly important to humanity! I just took a humanities class at my college and mostly all the teacher did was tell stories that relate to the bigger picture of our world. I learned a great deal from hearing his stories, and I feel the student's I teach learn ominously from hearing the stories I tell them. Telling stories makes us more human, it allows us to sympathize with others as well as helps us to grow close as a human race. Without stories, we would all be living very different lives. Stories give us advice, hope, happiness, the list goes on. I truly believe that story telling humanizes us.

Older. Stories that are common in many cultures (like how humans got fire, what happens after death, etc.) are important because they can be shared and understood across a spectrum of other societies and cultures. Often specific fact-based stories cannot be fully understood outside of its native audience -- but stories about common hopes and fears and joys break down communication barriers.

Over 30. Yes we need story telling to remind us of the past and for entertainment. We can learn much from others experiences.
