Make sure the thread in the bobbin is turning in the right direction.

The correct direction is the bobbin should turn counterclock wise when you pull the thread out of it when it is sitting in the bobbin case. But, different machines are different and you should look that up in the owners manual.

Is your sewing machine a Janome? If it is, your threading the needle the wrong way! thread the needle from the front to the back then pull the thread away from you to the back of the foot. Most people use a threader, they push the threader into the needle so that the back of the threader protrudes out the back of the needle after running the cotton through the loop they then pull it back towards themselves. This is wrong! Push the threader in from the back, then your pulling the thread away from you! o.k.? Have a great day.

You may have bought thread that is too cheap, that's why it is fraying. The fastest way to fix this is to drive the machine to a sewing machine store, buy some top quality thread from them and get someone there to thread it and set the tension for you. I admit I have done that myself when I couldn't get my machine to work!

If the thread is the comparable weight on the two spools of thread, it must be which you by probability threaded the device with the presser foot down once you used the smaller spool. have you ever used a bobbin fairly of the spool on the spool pin? I actual have executed this while i mandatory a definite coloration and purely had a bobbins. the stitching device ought to have a great, medium and small spool caps - i don't comprehend if it concerns that lots, in spite of the shown fact that it does not harm to apply the small cap with the narrow spool.
