My son is 1 month and 1 week old and for the past few weeks he has such bad gas. He pushes and pushes, his face turns red and he starts crying. I will take off his diaper and and pull his legs back and he lets it all release sometimes but it is so constant that I cant keep up with it or I will have his diaper off 24/7. I feel so bad for him. Last night he did not sleep AT ALL!! I mean he went on an 8 hour stretch and cried the whole time. Is this normal?? What can I do??
*hes breast fed

Watch what you eat, things that make you gassy can also make him gassy...but if he is always like this, he may not be able to tollerate your breast milk. Talk you your obgyn and to his pediatrition.

My aunt had to switch to formula and had a much happier baby for it.

Does he want to nurse a lot? It sounds like maybe he's having problems with lactose overload. You could try nursing on only one side for every nursing in a 2-3 hour period, then switching to the other side for 2-3 hours.

"What are the symptoms of lactose overload?
Frequent watery bowel motions (can often be green in color but not always)
Bowel motions often have a slightly to very offensive odor
Bowel motions could be frothy or 'explosive' (shoot out with force)
Bloating
Cramps
Excessive gas
Irritability/screaming
Sleeplessness or wakefulness
Baby appears to be constantly hungry
Baby gains large amounts of weight (which is not the case when a baby is lactose intolerant)
Baby is usually less than 3 months old, but this problem can continue to the age of 5 months"

Pump his legs like he's riding a bike when he's lying on his back. That helped my daughter who is also breast fed get rid of her gas. Also when he is feeding make sure that when he latches on you don't hear him sucking because that could be where the extra gas is coming from. When you are feeding be sure and stop a few times and burp him as well. Hope this helps

This does sound normal. The one thing I would do is watch what you eat. I had to cut out a lot of veggies when I was breastfeeding because they would give my son gas. You might try different things and see if one thing you eat causes your son more discomfort. Also while you are there to watch him lay him on his stomach for a couple of minutes. It might help to relieve the pressure in his stomach.

I would think the best thing to do is watch you food. Sometimes we do not realize how much what we eat affect our children. My son had acid reflux and every time I would eat Mexican food it would get worse.

Malocon Drops for infants works pretty good. If that doesn't work you could always try some water mixed with a little bit of Karo syrup in it. Also so your little one won't feel so bad you might try giving him a little infant tylenol. My son used to have the same problem. All it was is that he was constipated and he needed something to help him out to release it all.

Milicon drops work magic when it comes to gas. You can also go to Natural Food stores and get other infant gas relief medicine drops. It was a heaven send in my experience. Good luck!!!

You need to watch what you eat.... as that can affect how your baby feels with the gas etc...
