Bill O'Reilly says so, and as a liberal Democrat who teaches in NYC, I shocked to say I agree with him.

DCK2003, boy did you miss the point of this question. Most teachers I know want to make a difference in this world, not see how they can get other people's money away from them.

Frank T as a liberal Democrat, I will tell you that you are totally wrong about us. Stop spreading that nonsense! And you avoid the point of my question to insult teachers. Please start encouraging all of your conservative/moderate friends to become professors and teachers. Break the cycle. I dare you...

My guess is that within the pool of smart people -- and most teachers fit into that description -- some are more interested in business skills, while some are not. Those entering business are naturally going to lean a little bit to the right in some matters.
Teaching, meanwhile, is a comfortable occupation with a smaller amount of risk once you get established. For those who wish to change a small part of the world -- which might describe an activist view of society -- then teaching fits into that description nicely.
I don't think the split is 90-10 or anything like that, but I would think the profession does tilt to the left a little. I don't like agreeing with Mr. O'Reilly, but I think he's right here.

Its hard to say, but the liberals do have the vast majority of college teaching positions as well. Therefore, its an endless cycle, because those that teach the teachers are liberal. What I find so hard to understand, is that liberal democrats are all about people relying on the government in some way or another, and punishing people for being more successful and earning more money by making them pay higher taxes. And that is what they are teaching our kids. For example, the liberals want the government to limit what gas companies can charge. Now, how would you feel if the government said, you as a teacher were only allowed to make a certain amount and no more? Is it their place to tell you what you should earn?

Many liberals become teachers because the democrat party supports unions, and the teachers union is one of the strongest unions. Therefore, the democrat party helps teachers.

Some of my relatives/friends have decided to home school their children. The home schooled children I know are way ahead of public school kids the same age. There are so many good reasons to home school your children. If you have a support group to back you up, it is the best way to go. Some of my friends/relatives who have degrees in education, have to teach/coach their children every night after the children get home from school, anyway. The kids wouldn't be able to excell in school if they didn't get extra help from their moms cause they don't get competent teaching in the public school classrooms. At least that is the way it is here in Louisiana. Is it not that way in the other states?
I think many teachers are liberal Democrats, b/c the colleges are full of liberal Democrat professors. Young students are easily influenced when they leave home and enroll into the colleges/universities; most of them don't have a strong enough foundation to stand up for their convictions. (Which is the parent's and public school's fault.... but mostly the parents).

I think being a teacher requires submission to the system. Since the system is controlled by liberals that means success only comes to those that pay homage to it. Politics should have no place in the schools and all the corruption of schooling has done is weaken this country. I know there are some well meaning teachers but far too many quickly fall into puppet like presentations without the spirit needed to teach effectively. That is primarily why so many young people get turned off to schooling and turned on to surrender of their future by getting involved in drugs and premature sex, not to mention the Alcohol abuse that abounds. Teaching used to be a noble profession but the abuse of it by shirkers and corrupt union leadership ruined that

Teachers are low to mid level income salaried workers. Teachers are paid by the government and do not have a good grasp of how to run or work in a self sustained business.

I would think being a teacher means you come across some pretty interesting people and classes (any subject) is where people tend to let out their different beliefs and thoughts on anything. Liberals are very open minded people. To be a teacher, i'm sure you have to be open minded because of your students.
