I was listening to a William Buckley Jr. debate with Noam Chomsky and I was impressed. He is not the typical unintelligent political thinker of today like Ann Coulter or Michael Moore. He is civilized, he would admit that the other person may be right, and overall, seems like a gentleman. Even though I do not agree with many of his political stances, especially after 9/11, Noam Chomsky is also undoubtably intelligent and is also very civilized. But if you have someone like Ann Coulter in a debate, all she does is blame liberals for everything and say they should die, and there is Michael Moore, who blames conservatives for the world's problems and loves insulting the President for all of his failures instead of doing something other than making movies to change it.

Chomsky is certainly first choice, although
I cannot agree with him on all elaborations.
Moore is a filou, a different league, but sure
civilized and not to be named in one sentence
together with Nazi-Ann. I would not derogate
his political ambition just because he uses the
video as medium almost as Chomsky the word.
Both use analytics and dramaturgy. Chomsky's
spells are subthreshold, Moore's rather use cuts
and journalistic timelines - tough if not separated
sufficiently from the entertainment frame, so some
of his crafted details leave a taste of dishonesty,
How are we supposed to believe his statistics if
he can't even keep track of his interview calendar?
At least he's not only in for the money as his nice
copyrights sharing proved, still I'd expect he spares
us out from tricks as in "The Big One" in future...
"Thinker" is a bit too high praise anyway, as he just
reveals the very obvious. Others have solutions too.

I agree with what you say about Buckley, who stood miles above the bloviating buffoons regressive-rightists love so much today.
However, you might also consider that Buckley never debated Chomsky again. It wasn't because Chomsky wasn't willing.

The talking heads we see on TV are propagandists advocating a point of view, not thinkers. Fortunately we have people who think about specialized policy questions in think tanks, universities, and believe it or not career government employees in agencies like the state department, commerce dept, etc, and even the military. The world is very complicated so I can not name anyone who's judgment is informed on all issues, but on economic matters Paul Krugman best represents the liberal point of view, and Milton Fredman best represented the conservitive,

Ron Paul! Hope for America.
He is the only Presidential candidate who is speaking the truth. He wants us to be separated from the laws of the rest of the world which is what the UN is forcing upon us.
He wants to get rid of the bloated government that we don't need so that we can get out of debt instead of going into to debt deeper with useless laws that the Democrats keep coming up with to give amnesty to illegals.
He wants to bring the USA jobs back home where they belong and where we can inspect the quality before it leaves the factory to not be contaminated, etc.
Ron Paul is leading in the debate straw polls and he is number one in the Google trends. Ron Paul will reverse the unneeded government regulations at the Federal level to stop the waste of government spending.

I'm always impressed by Newt Gingrich. He's intelligent, knowledgeable, and level headed.
He gives you the straight facts devoid of long winded speeches, preaching or flag waving.

Ron Paul, he seems to be the only that realizes the effect of blowback which CIA and 911 commission all agree on. Politicians are just ignoring it.
