Boas give live birth and pythons lay eggs. Pythons have heat pits and boas do not. And for the most part, boas are found in the western hemsiphere and pythons are found in the eastern hemisphere. There are a few exceptions with boas, such as Dumeril's boas and a few others, but there is only one species of python found in the western hemisphere.

Boa Constrictor Vs Python

2016-11-13 00:27:41 · answer #2 · answered by vereen 4 · 0 0

Note that there is no easy way to tell the difference between a boa and a python.
Note that all pythons do lay eggs, and most boas do have live young but there are 3 species of boas that lay eggs. Pythons do not naturally occur in the Americas but are found in USA (particularly Burmese pythons which are common in parts of Southern Florida). Although there are many species of Boas in the Americas they also occur in other parts of the world including Southeastern Europe and Asia Minor, Northern, Central and East Africa, Madagascar, the Middle East, India some Pacific islands and New Guinea (near Australia) . There are skeletal differences, but that is not a practical way to tell the difference, neither is DNA testing. Note that there are many species of pythons and boas, they are not all large and not all look like your typical boa or typical python. Do a google search for boas of the world, or pythons of the world for more detailed information.

Are Pythons Constrictors

2017-01-02 06:05:59 · answer #4 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

Because boa constrictors, reticulated pythons, and anacondas are some of the biggest snakes in the world, many people get confused about which is which. The first thing to note is that the anaconda is a species of boa, not a separate type of snake. That leaves two groups, the boas and the pythons. These snakes have some things in common: they are constrictors, killing their prey by wrapping around it and suffocating it, and they are considered primitive snakes with two lungs (most snakes only have one) and remnants of hind legs and pelvic bones. But they have differences, too. Pythons have one more bone in their heads than boas do and some additional teeth, and pythons are found in the Old World (Africa, Asia, Australia) while boas live in both the Old World and the New World (North, Central, and South America). One of the biggest differences is that pythons lay eggs while boas give birth to live young.
