i have been seeing people put two pennies in a ziplock bag 3/4 full of water. and it is supost to keep the flies away. is this true and what is the theory behind it?

I don't see how this would repell flies. Even if the pennies react with the water to make something flies hate, it's sealed up in the bag, so how would it do anything! The only other possibile effect might be if the flies don't like the reflection of the light off the pennies/water. I don't think it works.

When the bag is clear it uses the water to magnify the fly, the pennies are to reflect light to increase the effect. A fly buzzing near the bag is supposed to see another fly of significantly larger size and be frightened off. I do not know if it actually works, but much of my family believe it.

Pennies in a zip lock baggie, with water in it, ain't gonna keep no flies away. You wanna keep flies away, buy a can of Raid.

my grandma did this but instead of putting pennies inside she put foil so it lines the inside of the bag and she filled it with water, then she left it outside and the light from the sun reflected off the bag but it never worked
