I trust my instincts which are my gut feelings, but I know my feelings because they have been around a long time and I am getting used to them.

I make a very big distinction between feeling & instincts. Feelings come from the ego, from programing, they are part of the monkey suit. They often can have no basis in reality. But my instincts, well that is entirely different. They come from a connection with what ever name you have for source. They are guiding in nature, come from our truth sense, & are never wrong. The kickker comes in being able to really tell the difference between the two, & once that is accomplished learning to give the correct interptation to our instincts. Thanks.

First determine what "feelings" or "instincts" mean. Then resolve the matter based on objectivity. For example, if I "feel" like I should do something kind for a person and I do it without knowing why, but later learn the person really benefited, then the "feeling" you had was right. There will thus be objective, verifiable realities that justify your action based on your "feelings." Watch for similar "feelings" and act upon them and watch the results.

I agree with several of the answerers who say "instinct" is a subconscious reaction to stimulus, like ducking at the sound of a loud noise, or yanking back a hand at the sense of heat. Intellect, experience and cultural norms affect instinct.

A feeling that urges you to do something objectively right is good. If, on the other hand, it urges you to do something wrong, it is bad. Revenge as one answerer mentioned is an objectively bad feeling. Dig two graves when you seek revenge.

If you are Christian, the spirit of Christ or the Light of Christ is believed to be an influence "felt" as "feelings" which inspires right action, while feelings that inspire wrong action--meanness, revenge, jealousy, rage are inspired by the Devil. The Greeks had similar beliefs and judged "feelings" by rational thought consistent with the virtues: courage, integrity, compassion, knowledge/wisdom and so forth.

Life is a quest to learn such things. That is why God put erasers on pencils.

Instincts are like warnings when the feelings run riot...

Feelings are uncontrollable at times and it is the (self-preserving) instincts that keep them on the leash.

I trust my instincts, just like any other animal; but sometimes I go with the feelings, just like any other human...

Oh, how you love to "play" on words! You are a brat!
Feelings & instincts have minor nuances in difference. Yet (as well you know) there's no major difference.
Feeling--state of mind rather than objective or rational attitude; intense receptivity, perception, sensation. Instinct, response. (& more.)
If I didn't trust my feelings, I could hardly "feel" I could trust my instincts.
I don't for a moment believe this has anything to do with "facts, logic, pragmatism," often misperceived &/or convoluted.
Feelings & instinct are the truest of the true of ourselves. They aren't distracted by "intellectual" speculations.
I absolutely trust my feelings/instincts. They have NEVER failed me.

Instincts & Feelings should only be used within certain Boundaries. Everyday people have to deal with Facts. Now, when basing and comparing Facts, you need to be able to not allow your Feelings & Instincts get the better of you because sometimes they can be wrong. Instincts are not written in stone, they are inner 'feelings' in origin of past experiences, trials, accomplishments that we have stored and remembered to apply them to future situations. Some instincts are inborn, like they say a new mother should trust her instincts, "Little Devon has a runny nose and sneezing, I think I should take him to the doctor" The findings are an inner ear infection and runny nose was a side effect. Mother has instincts based off of facts (runny nose) and the feelings were she loves her little boy and is concerned with his health. Some instincts are correct while others are over concerned, one must look at the facts and draw conclusions from that.

No, I need to trust my feelings before I can trust my instincts. If my instincts are based on behavior patterns that dont coincide with my feelings, my instincts are wrong.

My instincts have never let me down. Trusting in the way I feel about some one or something has often been blinded and led me to pain
