I had to start taking birth control when I was 15 years old because I have endometriosis. Don't worry about wanting to get pregnant later; that was an issue with birth control 15 years ago but it isn't now. Anything you take now will be perfectly safe and won't effect your ability to have children later on.

In my opinion, I wouldn't go on and off of it like that. It will completely mess up the hormonal balance in your body and you will feel like complete and utter crap all the time. Birth control pills are just hormones essentially, and it takes your body a few months to adjust to the extra hormones you are taking. If you stay on a few months and then go off, your body will start to readjust, and by the time it gets readjusted it will be time to go back on. Your body will be in a constant state of adjustment and you'll never have an even level of hormones in your body. You'll turn into a raging witch, my dear.

I haven't taken Yaz, but many kinds of birth control can cause you to gain weight, so be aware of that. And expect to feel a little "off" emotionally for the first few months or so. But it will make a huge difference with the pain you're experiencing.

Yaz has a website if you'd like to read about it more thoroughly, about the risks and benefits. Here's the link:

Good luck!

I've been on Ovcon for 25 years. It began with my periods giving me terrible cramps, diarrhea, etc. So, though I was not in a relationship (18), I started the pill. It smooths things out so there are no ups and downs emotionally during the month, in fact I can choose not to have a period at all.

When I married and decided to have a child, I stopped the pill, and was pregnant 2 weeks later. It didn't even slow me down!

I like the birth control pill, because the hormones help me keep my depression in control. My ovaries failed early (31), and the hormones help replace what I wasn't getting from my body.

As soon as my daughter started having bad periods, I told her she needed the pill. She resisted and resisted, but eventually it was necessary, so she gave in. She still takes them because the only good period is no period at all lol!!

I don't think it's anything to worry about. I've been on birth control since I was 16 and I'm 22 now. Do you have PCOS? I actually went to the doc because my periods were irregular and thought that's what I had. Turns out it wasn't that, but the pill regulates my cycle. I was originally put on Yasmin too til my insurance stopped covering it and now I'm on Necon. I say go for it. It also clears up acne if you have any. Nothing else got rid of my acne til I went on birth control.

The only problem I've ever had on BC was weight gain, but if you are careful and knowledgable and make sure to watch what you eat you should be fine. I haven't heard of any case (but there might be) that regular BC has caused infertility in the future. (There were some cases when the pill first came out because the doses of estrogen were too high, but that was like 40-50 yrs ago). I think you should go for it, good luck.

The Pill WILL NOT hinder your chance to get pregnant later on. Depo is the shot that will. As long as you are on a pill you will be fine.
