We had problems with deer in a major way. We did the following:
1. Hung aluminum pie plates around the garden so that they would clang together.
2. Put the green Irish Spring soap around the garden
3. Put male human urine around the garden

This worked great!! The deer haven't been back. We have been doing this every year for the past 6 years and it has worked every year.

I live in South Texas and we've had problems with deer as long as I can remember. People have tried hunting dogs, human hair, spotlights, loud noises, etc.... about the only thing that helps sometimes is an electric fence. We almost gave up on our vegetable garden, but we enclosed it with very high barbed wire they cannot jump. They are attracted to food, but there are plants they hate. Check online and plant a few of those if you have room. Oh... deer repellant does work, but you have to keep spraying it , especially after rain.

On my brothers ranch in Calaveras County, California we built the fence up to 10 ft around the garden, have 3 fenced dogs, and we also tend to recycle a 12-pack of beer around the flowers and garden.

The deer now hang out down with the horses (200 yards away).

There are a lot of deer deterents available. Some thngs that help: Hang a white sheet (Like on clothesline), decorate area with fabric softeners, recording of barking dogs, for a few.
