You can practice at home, but truly you need the input and interaction of others. You need to go to class.

If you need to start at home, get books from the library on techniques, get scene and monologue books and use the technique books to learn how to break those down and discover how to bring the character to life. It's really hard to do that though when you don't have anyone to critique you and I mean people who know what they're looking for. Mom and dad will tell you 'that was great sweetheart' You need a teacher that will ask you why you made that specific choice and ask what if you changed this, or what if your character was thinking this, there are so many variables that you won't discover without being with other actors and a teacher.

Practicing from movies you will only mimic another actor's performance. I don't really see that as being helpful.

Good luck,
Marianne

You could practice memorizing and reciting monologues, but don't practice facial expressions (that makes for fake acting).

There is virtually nothing else you can do on your own to practice acting.

You can find monologues and do them in front of a mirror and practice your facial expressions
